Gingerbread man cookies pattern

Materials needed :

  1. Paintbox Simply DK – vanilla cream ( 107 )- main body and hands
  2. Paintbox Simply DK– white – frosting on head
  3. Paintbox Simply DK– red – rose red (113)- cherry on top
  4. Paintbox Simply DK– light brown/brown – cherry handle
  5. Crochet hook size – 3,5mm – US crochet hook size – E
  6. Safety eyes – 12mm – black or you can use different color depends on you
  7. Poly fiber fill for stuffing
  8. Tapestry needle
  9. Scissors
  10. Buttons for decoration- I used 2 buttons.

The doll is made of flat pieces that we will join with single crochet stitch later. Jingle the elf  is made of 6 pieces.

Tips and tricks of the pattern:

  1. Color changing – When you switch colors do it always before you finish your last st of the prev color yarn. Just change color before your last YO of prev st and YO with new color then pull through the hook with the new yarn . Here is example with colors – insert your hook into the last stitch of Colour A. Pull up a loop in Colour A. Then yarn over in Colour B to complete the stitch. Continue with Colour B until you need to switch again.

When you change color make sure that you are dropping the yarn in the back of your panel if you wish you can put a stitch marker of the Right side of the panel or piece of string so you will never wonder which one is the correct side.

  1. Incorporating different colors – You can use fair isle crochet technique when changing colors or you can just pull them from back without cutting yarn. Just be sure that you keep the yarn at the backside of panel. In the pattern when we make the head we will need to work different color stitches of some rows. The whole pattern is made using single crochet stitch so when we incorporate different colors the stitches will be indicated with the letter of the color . For example – “ 6W, 12CR , 6W ” – so it means that you should make first 6 stitches with White color, the next 12 with Cream , and last 6 with White color. When it says “ decW” – it means you should decrease with white color yarn .
  2. Do not forget – Make ch 1 and  turn at the end of each row.

Let”s get starting :

Front and back body panel of the Ginger man cookie with bow :

Start with vanilla cream color yarn .

Row 1:  ch 6, sc 5  ( 5 sts )

Row 3-9: sc across ( 7 sts )

Row 10: inc, sc 5, inc ( 9 sts )

Row 11: sc across ( 9 sts )

Tie off.

Repeat the rows 1-11 but do not tie off. Now you will have two pieces that we will join together in next row as in the picture bellow:

In the next row we will join 2 legs of the front body panel .

Row 12: inc, sc 8 across of 1st leg,  now continue on the 2nd leg and make sc 8 , inc in last st ( 20 sts )

Row 13-22: sc across ( 20 sts  )

Row 23: dec, sc 16, dec ( 18 sts )

Row 36-46: sc across ( 22 sts )

Row 47: dec, sc 18, dec ( 20 sts )

Row 48: sc across ( 20 sts )

Switch to white color yarn. Next 2 rows are worked in white.

Row 49: sc across ( 20 sts )

Row 50: dec, sc 16, dec ( 18 sts )

Switch to vanilla cream color yarn. Rows 51-54 are worked in vanilla cream color.

Row 51: sc across ( 18 sts )

Row 53:  dec, sc 12,  dec ( 14 sts )

Row 54: dec, sc 10, dec ( 12 sts )

Front and back body panel of the cookie with frosting and cherry on top:

Rows 1-41 are worked the same.

Now we will start incorporating different colors to make the frosting on the head. Stitches  will be indicated with letters instead of sc. Find the letter-color in color  legend section.

Row 42: 6VC, 2W, 14VC  ( 22 sts )

Row 43: 7VC, 1W, 4VC, 4W, 6VC ( 22 sts )

Row 49: sc across ( 20 sts )

Row 50: dec, sc 16, dec ( 18 sts )

Row 51: sc across ( 18 sts )

Row 52:  dec, sc 14,  dec ( 16 sts )

Row 53:  dec, sc 12,  dec ( 14 sts )

Row 54: dec, sc 10, dec ( 12 sts )

Cherry on top :

Row 1: Insert the hook in any stitch of row 54 that you wish your cherry to start from, pull a loop and ch1,make sc in same st, sc in next 2 sts. ( 3 sts )

Row 2: inc, sc 1, inc ( 5 sts )

Row 3-5: sc across ( 5 sts )

Row 6: dec, sc1, dec ( 3 sts ). Tie off.

Take light brown/brown yarn and insert the hook in the 2nd st of last row and pull a loop make ch 6, sl.st along chs.

Hands : ( make 4 pieces )

Start with vanilla cream/skin color yarn.

Row 1: Ch 3, sc 2 ( 2 sts )

Row 2: inc 2 ( 4 sts )

Row 3-14: sc across ( 4 sts )

Tie off.

Blush on the chicks: ( 2 pieces )- make with pink color yarn.

Rd 1: Start with magic ring and make 6 sc into it.

Rd 2: inc in each st around ( 12 sts )

Rd 3: sc across  ( 12 sts )

Bow : ( red color yarn )

Row 1: Ch 25 , join with sl.st in 1st ch to form a circle, sc in each ch across ( 25 sts )

Row 2-3:ch1, sc in same st,  sc in next 24 sts  ( 25 sts )

Take a long piece of string and tie the bow in the middle . Use the same string to sew the bow on head of cookie.

Use white color yarn and tapestry needle to make the decorations of the cookie with the bow. Make curly line on the bottom of belly, hands and feet.

Assembling pieces together. It doesn’t matter where you will start assembling.

It will be easier if you attach the small parts on the body and face first then join the 2 body panel together.

  1. First assembly hand pieces together 2 by 2. 2 pieces for each hand. Join the with sc st. Assemble ears.
  2. Insert the eyes in the 39th row leave 3 or 4 sts space between eyes.
  3. Sew pink blush circles jus bellow the eyes – a little bit aside .
  4. Make mouth using black string and tapestry needle.
  5. Sew hands to the back panel.
  6. Assemble two body panels.
  7. Stuff doll as you join along.

There are two different methods of joining that I used- I used the ordinary single crochet stitch joining in 1 of the gingerbread man ( this with the bow ) and joining with slip stitch ( gingerbread man with cherry on top )

When you join two body panels make sure that the right side of front panel is facing you while you are crocheting with single crochet stitch around.

In the picture bellow you can see the difference between two gingerman cookies .

Santa’s Christmas elf Jingle

Only 11 days left and Christmas rush in Santa’s house at the North Pole has already started. Rudolph and Ruby have already joined to help Santa. We work the back panel shorter than the front as we need our hat to be slouchy and not pointy straight up.

Row 3-5: sc across ( 4 sts )

Switch to evergreen color yarn.

Row 6-17: sc across ( 4 sts )

Tie off.

White piece around eyes :

Start with magic ring and make 12 dc into it . do not pull the ring . First insert the safety eye and then pull to tied it around th eye and then join with sl.st in 1st st. I suggest you to use thicker yarn like sport weight or fingering for that piece so when you put the safety eye you will be sure that it won’t come out.

You can use white felt circle instead of crochet one.

Crochet white circle:

Rd 1: Start with magic ring and make 12 dc into the ring , join with sl.st in 1st st but before closing the magic ring insert the safety eye and close the ring around eye. Then insert it in the front panel. Insert the eyes in the 48th row leave 6sts space between eyes.

Ears : ( make 4 pieces)- make with vanilla cream color.

Row 1: Ch 2, inc in 2nd ch from hook ( 2 sts )

Row 5-6: sc across ( 6 sts )

Row 7: dec, sc 2, dec ( 4 sts )

Row 8: sc across ( 4 sts )

Row 9:  2 dec ( 2 sts )

Row 10: sc across ( 2 sts )

Row 11: dec ( 1 sts )

Row 12: sc 1 ( 1 sts )

Belt : make with light brown ( Soft Fudge ) color yarn .

Ch 22, dc in 3rd ch from hook, dc in next 18 sts . End.

Belt clips – make 1 piece with yellow color yarn .

Ch 20, join with sl.st in 1st ch to form a circle.

Row 1: ch1, sc in same ch, sc in next 2 sts, inc, sc in next 5 sts, inc, sc in next 3 sts, inc, sc in next 5 sts, inc, join with sl.st in 1st st. End . Leave a long tale for sewing.

Vest : Make with red color yarn.

Row 1: Ch 13, sc 12 ( 12 sts )

Row 2: inc, sc 10, inc ( 14 sts )

Row 3:  * ch 7, work along chs and make- sc 2, hdc 2, dc 2, skip 2 sts of prev row, sl.st in next st, * rep the sequence around the row . You should have 5 small triangle .

Assembling pieces together. It doesn’t matter where you will start assembling for .

It will be easier if you attach the small parts on the body and face first then join the 2 body panel together.

  1. First assembly hand pieces together 2 by 2. 2 pieces for each hand. Join the with sc st. Assemble ears.
  2. Insert the eyes in the 53rd row leave 6sts space between eyes.
  3. Sew the nose in the middle between eyes but 1 row bellow.
  4. Make eyebrows and mouth using black string and tapestry needle.
  5. Sew hands and ears to the back panel.
  6. Sew belt and belt clip on the front panel. Sew belt on row 26
  7. Sew vest onto row 42. If you wish you can sew the edge of the mini triangles pointing downwards. I left my as 3D without sewing.
  8. Assemble two body panels.
  9. Stuff doll as you join along.

When you join two body panels make sure that the right side of front panel is facing you while you are crocheting with single crochet stitch around .

As you crochet along the outside, you will need to switch colors where appropriate. When switching colors, insert your hook into the last stitch of Color A. Pull up a loop in Color A. Then yarn over in Color B to complete the stitch. Continue with Color B until you need to switch again.

We have 2 different length panels as we said we need the front panel to have slouchy hat of Santa Claus so we will start joining from the left side of our Santa Claus and continue downwards till the other side of the head .

The up part will be sewn later as we can’t join both parts with sc st .

Christmas rush- Ruby the reindeer join Santa to help- free crochet pattern

Christmas rush- Ruby the reindeer join Santa to help- free crochet pattern

RUBY the reindeer ragdoll pattern

And of course in Christmas there must be more helpers to Santa Claus to carry the gifts. I thought it will be very difficult for Santa and Rudolph to get all the work done so here is another little helper of Santa Claus- Ruby. Not only here Christmas rush started but in North Pole as well. Ruby the reindeer is so enthusiastic, curious and full of energy that everything she seems to do goes a little crazy. For me after Rudolph maybe she is the cutest one, so I decide to make one more helper for us. She is a bit different from Rudolph as you can see on the picture and more festive. As Mr. Santa and Mrs. Santa Claus for me Rudolph without Ruby will not give me the full spirit of Christmas. So let’s start crocheting our cute little helper:

If you haven’t seen my Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus with their helper Rudolph the reindeer. Just click on the picture below:

Materials needed:

  1. Paintbox Simply DK – brown – Coffee Bean (110)- feet
  2. Paintbox Simply DK – light caramel (108)- antlers, muzzle
  3. Paintbox Simply DK– light brown– Soft Fudge (109) – main body, head
  4. Paintbox Simply DK– green – grass green(129)- dress
  5. Stylecraft Special DK– light green- grass green (1821) Christmas tree
  6. Stylecraft Special DK– red – lipstick (1246)- decoration of dress
  7. Crochet hook size – 3,5mm – US crochet hook size – E – I used this
  8. Safety eyes – 12mm – black or you can use different color depends on you
  9. Poly fiber fill for stuffing
  10. Tapestry needle
  11. Scissors

The doll is made of flat pieces that we will join with single crochet stitch later. Ruby is made of 15 flat pieces.

Tips and tricks of the patterns :

  1. Color changing – When you switch colors do it always before you finish your last st of the prev color yarn, Just change color before your last YO of prev st and YO with new color then pull through the hook with the new yarn . Here is example with colors – insert your hook into the last stitch of Colour A. Pull up a loop in Colour A. Then yarn over in Colour B to complete the stitch. Continue with Colour B until you need to switch again.
  2. When you change color make sure that you are dropping the yarn in the back of your panel if you wish you can put a stitch marker of the Right side of the panel or piece of string so you will never wonder which one is the correct side.
  3. Do not forget – Make ch 1 and  turn at the end of each row.

I used 2 differnet brands green yarn but they have the same name in the brands color  chart  so dark green in indicated with GR  and light green is indicated with GG

Color legend :

Row 15: inc, sc 10 across 1st leg piece now continue on 2nd leg piece and make sc 10 across, inc in last st ( 24 )

Row 12-14: sc across ( 3 sts )

When you join antlers be sure that you are joining the right side facing you. The antlers must be pointing different side . One must point right and one left side. It means you should turn the pieces when you join them.

White piece around eyes :

I used felt piece – just take a medium size ring or coin and make a circle onto white felt piece. Cut it make a little hole in the felt circle where you will put the eyes.

You can make crochet version too :

Start with magic ring and make 12 dc into it . do not pull the ring . First insert the safety eye and then pull to tied it around th eye and then join with sl.st in 1st st. I suggest you to use thicker yarn like sport weight or fingering for that piece so when you put the safety eye you will be sure that it won’t come out.

Insert the eyes in the 52nd  row leave 6sts space between eyes.

Final touches – Decorating Ruby’s dress.

Using tapestry needle and small amount of different color yarns make the cable of the Christmas light with black string. Then make vertical small lines in different color for the bulb of lights. I made mine with 3 vertical lines. Using yellow string make the star at the top of Christmas tree.

Assembling pieces together. It doesn’t matter where you will start assembling for .

It will be easier if you attach the small parts on the body and face first then join the 2 body panel together.

  1. First assembly hand pieces together 2 by 2. 2 pieces for each hand. Join the with sc st.
  2. Insert the eyes in the 52nd row leave 6sts space between eyes.
  3. Sew the muzzle in the middle bellow eyes.
  4. Using tapestry needle make the white lines that separates the coat from bottom. Use the basic tapestry chain stitch.
  5. Sew the hands to the back panel.
  6. Sew the ears and antlers to head of back body panel .

Joining all the pieces :

When you join two body panels make sure that the right side of front panel is facing you while you are crocheting with single crochet stitch around .

As you crochet along the outside, you will need to switch colours where appropriate. When switching colours, insert your hook into the last stitch of Colour A. Pull up a loop in Colour A. Then yarn over in Colour B to complete the stitch. Continue with Colour B until you need to switch again.

Stuff  doll as you crochet join along.

Christmas is always special for children and for adults as well. Just 13 days left and if you are a last minute person like us and searching for unique gift for your friends, family or someone you love and want to make them happy this can be the best gift for them. It is not big, but the biggest happiness is in the small things right? The main character for all of us is Santa, and as I said Christmas without a Santa won’t have the real spirit of Christmas but if there is Mr. Santa there must definitely be Mrs. Santa as well. As my Mrs. Santa is preparing delicious cookies for Santa Claus you would like to make your own Granny Santa and here is the pattern. Enjoy and if you haven’t seen my Mr. an Mrs. Santa Claus pattern you can find them below.

Christmas ragdoll Mrs. Santa Claus crochet free pattern

Christmas ragdoll Mrs. Santa Claus crochet free pattern

Enjoy and if you haven’t seen my Santa Claus pattern you can find it here.

For this pattern I used:
1. Dk weight yarn – I used Stylecraft Special DK and Paintbox Simply DK yarns in these colors : red – 1123 Claret ; beige – skin color – 1710 – stone ; white – 1001; black – 1002 ; very small amount of yellow to make the clips of belt.
2. Crochet hook size – 3,5mm – US crochet hook size – E
3. Safety eyes – 12mm – black or you can use different color depends on you
4. Poly fiber fill for stuffing
5. Tapestry needle
6. Scissors

Color Legend :

R – red – Claret

CR- skin color – Stone

W – white

The doll is made of flat pieces that we will join with single crochet stitch later. The Santa Claus doll is made of 6 panels – 2 for body and 4 for hands.

Front body panel :

Body and head panel. Front panel is worked from row 1 til row 78. Back panel is worked from row 1 till row 67 . Rows 68-78 are for the hat and we are making it only for the front panel as we need the head to be slouchy not straight pointing upwaRows .

Start with black color yarn .

Row 1: Ch 6, sc 5 ( 5 )

Row 2: inc, sc 3, inc ( 5 )

Row 3- 5: sc across ( 7 )

Switch to white color . Row 6-7 are worked in white.

Row 6: sc across ( 7 )

Row 7: inc, sc 5, inc ( 9 )

Switch to red color yarn . row 9- 37 is worked in red color yarn.

Row 8: sc across ( 9 )

Tie off. Repeat the rows 1-11 but do not tie off. Now you will have two pieces that we will join together in next row as in the picture bellow:

In the next row we will join 2 legs of the front body panel .

Row 9: ch 4, sc 3 along rem chs, sc 9 along prev row of 1st leg, now continue on the 2nd leg and make sc 9 along the prev row ( 21 )

Row 10: ch 4, inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc 2 along rem chs, sc 21 along prev row , inc in last st ( 26 )

Row 11: inc, sc 24, inc ( 28 )

Row 12-16: sc across ( 28 )

Row 18: sc across ( 26 )

Row 19: dec, sc 22, dec ( 24 )

Row 20:  sc across ( 24 )

Row 24-25: sc across ( 20 )

Row 26: dec, sc 16, dec ( 18 sts )

Row 27-28: sc across ( 18 sts )

Row 29: dec, sc 14, dec ( 16 sts )

Row 30: sc across ( 16 sts )

Row 31: dec, sc 12, dec ( 14 sts )

Row 32-35: sc across ( 14 sts )

Row 36: dec, sc 10, dec ( 12 sts )

Row 37: dec, sc 8, dec ( 10 sts )

Switch to cream/skin color yarn. Rows 38-48 are worked in cream/skin color yarn.

Row 38: sc across ( 10 sts )

Now we will start the head..

Row 39: Ch 4, sc 3 along rem chs , sc 10 along prev row ( 13 sts )

Row 40: Ch 4, inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in rem 2 chs, sc 12 along prev row, inc in last st ( 18 sts )

Row 41: inc, sc 16 , inc ( 20 sts )

Row 42: inc, sc 18, inc ( 22 sts )

Row 43-48: sc across ( 22 sts )

Now we will start incorporating different colors to form the face and hear of Missis Santa Claus. Now instead of the sc- there will be the letter of the color that you should use. You can find the corresponding letter and color in the Color legend.

Row 49- 52: sc across ( 22 sts )

Row 53: dec, sc 18, dec ( 20 sts )

Row 54: sc across ( 20 sts )

Row 55: dec, sc 16, dec ( 18sts )

Row 56: dec, 14sc, dec ( 16 sts )

Row 57: dec, sc 12, dec ( 14 sts )

Hands : ( make 4 pieces )

Start with cream/skin color yarn.

Row 1: Ch 3, sc 2 ( 2 sts )

Row 2: inc 2 ( 4 sts )

Switch to white color yarn

Row 6-7: sc across ( 4 sts )

Switch to red color yarn

Row 8-17: sc across ( 4 sts ) .

Apron : Start with white yarn

Row 1: ch 13, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 11 sts

Row 2: inc, sc 10, inc

Row 3-14: sc across ( 14 sts )

Take the apron right side facing you. Insert the hook in the 1st st of 2nd row and pull a loop,  * make 3hdc in the same st. then make sl.st in next st * rep till the end of the row ( you should have 6 shells ) After the last shell do not sl.st in next st make the sl.st in the last st of the row. Now make the same at the other side. You should start from bottom working upwards. Just begin from 1st st of last row, skip 1 and make the 1st shell in 3rd row ( 6 shells in total )

Decoration of apron :

Use tapestry needle and make leaves. I made little red circles and leaves around them.

Little circle – Start with agic ring and make 5 sc into it.

Ears ( Make 4 pieces) :

Start with magic ring and make 8 dc into it. Do not join. End. You should have semi- circle shape.Join ears 2 by 2 with sc st . When you assembly them, work the sc st only around the outside of round part do not join the flat side we will sew it directly to the body panel .

Earings-( red color yarn )  Start with agic ring and make 5 sc into it , join with sl.st to form a circle. Sew them on ears.

Assembling pieces together. It doesn’t matter where you will start assembling for .

It will be easier if you attach the small parts on the body and face first then join the 2 body panel together.

  1. First assembly hand pieces together 2 by 2. 2 pieces for each hand. Join the with sc st. Assemble ears and sew earings on them.
  2. Insert the eyes in the 48th row leave 6sts space between eyes.
  3. Sew the nose in the middle between eyes but 1 row bellow.
  4. Sew the hands to the back panel.
  5. Assemble two body panels.

Enjoy your day and happy crochet .

Santa Claus ragdoll pattern

What is Christmas without a Santa? Hmm ( something like chocolate without cocoa ) so I made my own Santa Claus who will come whatever if I have been good or bad girl. When we were kid we were watching movie after movie for this handsome grandpa Santa. We were loving Sundays because for all they there was movie for Christmas. They  were magical moments and we still believe that magic happens on Christmas. It is always special for children and for adults as well.

Of course le’s first start with our handsome grandpa Santa Claus. If you believe in magic and would like to have your own grandpa here is the pattern :

Materials needed :

Front body panel :

Body and head panel . Front panel is worked from row 1 til row 78 . Back panel is worked from row 1 till row 67 . Rows 68-78 are for the hat and we are making it only for the front panel as we need the head to be slouchy not straight pointing upwards .

Start with black color yarn .

Rd 1: Ch 6, sc 5 ( 5 )

Rd 2: inc, sc 3, inc ( 5 )

Rd 3- 6: sc across ( 7 )

Switch to white color . Row 7-9 are worked in white.

Rd 7-8: sc across ( 7 )

Rd 9: inc, sc 5, inc ( 9 )

Switch to red color yarn . row 10- 40 is worked in red color yarn.

Rd 10: sc across ( 9 )

Rd 11: inc, sc 7, inc ( 11 )

Tie off. Repeat the rows 1-11 but do not tie off. Now you will have two pieces that we will join together in next row as in the picture bellow:

Rd 12: sc across the fisrt leg piece then continue on the 2nd leg piece ( 22 )

Rd 13: inc, sc 20, inc ( 24 )

Rd 14: sc across ( 24 )

Rd 15: inc, sc 22, inc ( 26 )

Rd 16- 26: sc across ( 26 )

Rd 27: dec, sc 22, dec ( 24 )

Rd 28:  sc across ( 24 )

Rd 29: dec, sc 20, dec ( 22 )

Rd 30: sc across ( 22 )

Rd 31: dec, sc 18, dec ( 20 )

Rd 32: sc across ( 20 )

Rd 33: dec, sc 16, dec ( 18 sts )

Rd 34: sc across ( 18 sts )

Rd 35: dec, sc 14, dec ( 16 sts )

Rd 36: sc across ( 16 sts )

Rd 37: dec, sc 12, dec ( 14 sts )

Rd 38: sc across ( 14 sts )

Rd 39: dec, sc 10, dec ( 12 sts )

Rd 40: sc across ( 12 sts )

Now we will start the head. Switch to white color yarn. Row 41-46 is worked in white color yarn. This will be the beard of Santa.

Rd 41: Ch 4, sc 3 along chs , sc 12 along prev row ( 15 sts )

Rd 42: Ch 4, inc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in rest 2 chs, sc 14 along prev row, inc in last st ( 20 sts )

Rd 43: inc, sc 18 , inc ( 22 sts )

Rd 44: inc, sc 20, inc ( 24 sts )

Rd 45-46: sc across ( 24 sts )

Now we will start incorporating different colors to form the face and beard of the Santa Claus. Now instead of the sc- there will be the letter of the color that you should use. You can find the corresponding letter and color in the Color legend.

Rd 47: 6W , 12 CR, 6W ( 24 sts )

Rd 48: 5W, 14CR, 5W ( 24 sts )

Rd 49: 4W, 16CR, 4W ( 24 sts )

Rd 50: 3W, 18CR, 3W ( 24 sts )

Rd 51-55: 2W,  20CR, 2W ( 24 sts )

Rd 56: 3W, 18CR, 3W ( 24 sts )

Rd 57: decW, 2W, 16CR, 2W, decW ( 22 sts )

Rd 58: 4W, 14CR, 4W ( 22 sts )

Rd 59: decW, 3W, 12CR, 3W, decW ( 20sts )

Rd 60: 5W, 10CR, 5W ( 20sts )

Switch to white color yarn . Row 61 is all worked in white color yarn.

Rd 61: dec, 16sc, dec ( 18 sts )

Switch to red color yarn . Row 62-76 is worked in red color yarn.

Rd 62: sc across ( 18 sts )

Rd 63: dec, sc14, dec ( 16 sts )

Rd 64: dec, sc 12, dec ( 14 sts )

Rd 65: dec, sc 10, dec ( 12 sts )

Rd 66: dec, sc 8, dec ( 10 sts )

Rd 67: sc across ( 10 sts )

Rd 68: dec, sc 6, dec ( 8 sts )

Rd 69- 70: sc across ( 8 sts )

Rd 71: dec, sc 4, dec ( 6 sts )

Rd 72-73: sc across ( 6 sts )

Rd 74: dec, sc 2, dec ( 4 sts )

Rd 75-76: sc across ( 4 sts )

Rd 77: dec 2

Rd 78: dec . End .

Back panel :

Row 1- 46 are worked the same as front panel . Continue with white color yarn till row 51.

Rd 47- 51: sc across ( 24 sts )

Switch to red color yarn , Row 52-67 are worked in red color yarn.

52-56: sc across  ( 24 sts )

Rd 57: dec, sc 20, dec ( 22 sts )

Rd 58: sc across ( 22 sts )

Rd 59: dec, sc 18, dec ( 20sts )

Rd 60: sc across ( 20sts )

Rd 61: dec, 16sc, dec ( 18 sts )

Rd 62: sc across ( 18 sts )

Rd 63: dec, sc14, dec ( 16 sts )

Rd 64: dec, sc 12, dec ( 14 sts )

Rd 65: dec, sc 10, dec ( 12 sts )

Row 66: dec, sc 8, dec ( 10 sts )

Row 67: sc across ( 10 sts )

Mustache – ( make 2 pieces )– The mustache will be made by 1 panel for each side. Make with white color yarn.

Make ch1, turn in the end of each row.

Row 1: Ch 3, sc 2 ( 2 sts )

Row 2: inc, sc 1( 3 sts )

Row 3-9: sc across ( 3 sts )

Row 10: dec, sc 1 ( 2 sts )

Row 11: dec ( 1 sts )  End.

Nose :

Rd 1: Start with magic ring and make 6 sc into it

Rd 2: * inc, sc1 * rep 3 times ( 9 )

Rd3-4 sc across ( 9 sts ). Tie off. Leave long tale for sewing.

Hands : ( make 4 pieces )

Start with black yarn.

Row 1: Ch 3, sc 2 ( 2 sts )

Row 2: inc 2 ( 4 sts )

Row 3-5: sc across ( 4 sts )

Switch to white color yarn

Row 6-7: sc across ( 4 sts )

Switch to red color yarn

Row 8-17: sc across ( 4 sts ) . Tie off.

Belt: make 1 piece – start with black yarn

Row 1: Ch 23, sc 22 , ch1, turn ( 22 sts )

Row 2: sc across ( 22 sts )

Belt clips – make 1 piece with yellow color yarn .

Ch 20, join with sl.st in 1st ch to form a circle.

Row 1: ch1, sc in same ch, sc in next 2 sts, inc, sc in next 5 sts, inc, sc in next 3 sts, inc, sc in next 5 sts, inc, join with sl.st in 1st st. End . Leave a long tale for sewing.

Insert the eyes in the 55th row leave 6sts space between eyes.

Assembling pieces together. It doesn’t matter where you will start assembling  .

It will be easier if you attach the small parts on the body and face first then join the 2 body panel together.

  1. First assembly hand pieces together 2 by 2. 2 pieces for each hand. Join hands with sc st.
  2. Insert the eyes in the 55th row leave 6sts space between eyes.
  3. Make the eyebrows with white yarn using basic tapestry chain stitch.
  4. Sew the nose in the middle between eyes but 1 row bellow.
  5. You can make eyelashes using tapestry needle and black string to give more expression to face.
  6. Sew the Mustache just under nose. 1 piece pointing left and the other one right side.
  7. Using tapestry needle make the white lines that separates the coat from bottom. Use the basic tapestry chain stitch.
  8. Sew belt in 28-29 row. Then sew the belt clip on the black line.
  9. Sew the hands to the back panel.

Stuffing – Stuf the toy when you crochet along . When you go around the leg with sc fill it.

We have 2 different length panels as we said we need the front panel to have slouchy hat of Santa Claus so we will start joining from the left side of our Santa Claus and continue downwards till the other side of the head .

The up part will be sewn later as we can’t join both parts with sc st .

When you have made sc all around the body and joined it now take a tapestry needle and sew the last row of back panel to the matching row of the front panel to close the whole that has left at the top.

Lets start with the first graphs of our fisrt 4 letters from the English alphabet – A, B, C, D . For the letter C there are 2 graphs one is for carrot and one for cherry. You can use whatever you wish.

  • A- Apple – I chose that fruit because it is known in each country and it is loved by most of the kids. It will be a good choice with which your kid can associate the letter “ A ”. You can make it in different background and instead of red you can make it with green or yellow color depends on you and on your yarn stash.

Yarn used – I used Stylecraft Special dk and Paintbox Simply Dk yarns- I will give you each color I used in each square.

HOW TO READ THE GRAPHIC – WHERE TO START, HOW TO KEEP TRACK OF YOUR WORK.

When we use corner to corner we work in diagonal rows. Usually we start from bottom right corner and work through up left corner . When you start your work and make your first 2 rows put a stitch marker on your Right side – RS so when you work you won’t make mistake which row you are crocheting.

If you don’t put a stitch a marker to indicate which side is the Right side facing you you can make a mistake and start your row from up instead of down bottom part . For example if you are crocheting row 6 you can see in the picture bellow with the graph that you must start from  right side crocheting downward not from bottom left side crocheting upward.

There are two ways of instruction for the c2c – corner to corner crochet technique .

1st way –  Graphic instruction with graphical picture chart . If you use that way you will count the box of the graph and change the color depending on the colors in your graph.

2nd way – written instruction – here the instructions are written. Colors of the blocks are written as how many block you should make with different colors . For example Row 5: 2B , 2, 1B – here it means that you should make 2 blocks with brown color yarn, then switch to white and make 2 blocks, switch to brown color and make 1 block .

If you prefer to use 1st method with printed chart it will be very easier for you if you strikethrough your finished rows as it is shown in the graph picture bellow so you will keep track of your rows. Just remember which side is your front side that is right side facing you as when we make the eyes of the fruits and vegetables it won’t be reversible . At the beginning when I made the first two squares I made mistakes few times when I used that method. But I guess that if I had the written instructions it would have been easier to make the squares as you don’t need to count because somebody have already made that for you J .

See How to change colors and how to make the  letters, eyes and mouth here.

How to change color in corner to corner crochet technique.

When you use corner to corner crochet for your project you will see that the items made with it are reversible. To keep them reversible we must change colors using change color technique.  If you wish you can carry the yarn as you crochet but then the blanket will not be reversible any longer.

Change color-

  1. When you make your last double crochet stitch before you sl.st in tch do not complete last yo of dc
  2. Instead yo with new color, pull through the loops.
  3. st in tch, ch 3
  4. Complete as usual

Sometimes you will need to finish one row with color A, and then immediately start the next with color B , when you work in your increase colors you must change colors before the last yo of your last dc as was shown in the pictures above.

When you need that color change you should make it as shown in the picture bellow :

HOW TO JOIN C2C CROCHET SQUARES

In this project i am making 28 different corner to corner squares that we will join after we finish them . It is the best way as the project is really big and when we work with small squares it is easier because each square is made using 3-4 different colors of yarn which is more easy to work with otherwise the yarn can tangle and it is very annoying.

When we complete our squares we will join them with sl.st in back loops of both squares  but first we will make border of squares with white yarn and then join them all together .

Border of c2c squares ( white yarn )-:

Row 1 : Insert your hook in any of the corners 1 st ( I inserted mine in up left corner ), pull a loop and make sc 1, ch 2, sc 1 all in the same st that we have inserted our hook.- this will form our corner

Ch 2, skip 1 block and make sc 1 in the space between the two blocks, repeat all around till you get to the corner – in the corner make again sc 1, ch 2, sc 1 , join with sl.st in 1st sc st.

Row 2 : Ch 3, dc 1, ch 2, dc 2 in the corner ch-2 sp , make 2 dc in each of next ch-2 sp, in the corner make 2 dc , ch 2, dc 2 to form the corner .

HOW TO MAKE EYES AND LETTERS .

We will use embroidery basic chain stitch to make the letters and lines that gives the fruit and vegetables more realistic look . I used this in some of my vegetables as iceberg lettuce for example . In the graph the lines that you should make are colored with dark colors . For example iceberg lettuce square .

How to make basic embroidery chain stitch – Insert the needle from point A to point B as you see there is a circle formed and the needle is inside the circle now pull the needle and insert it in the point B and pull it from point C .

Make the mouth of each fruit or vegetable using the same method you can make it as big as you wish in different shape – crying, smiling, wondering .

I made some of the eyes separately and then sew them on the fruits just because I forgot to make them when I was crocheting the fruit as I haven’t  made  the graphs before I start the blanket . I made the graphs as I crochet. At the end I realized that it is easier to make the eyes separately and then sew them on the fruits as you do not need to cut the yarn and attach the black yarn to make the black block of c2c which is going to be your eye. Actually it is easier and I think more esthetic  if you sew them .

Here is how to make the eyes :

1st way to make the eyes  –  White part – Start with magic ring, secure with slip knot , ch2 and make 10 dc into the ring, join with sl.st in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.

Black part – Start with magic ring and make 7 sc into the ring , join with sl.st in 1st st .

Sew the black part onto the white and then make sparkle with the white color yarn .

2nd way to make the eye – Start with black color yarn

Rd 1:  Make magic ring and 6 sc into it.

Rd 2: Switch to white color yarn – ch2, hdc in base of initial ch 2, 2 hdc in each st around , join with sl.st in 2nd ch of beg ch-2.

There are 1 post for each 4 letters – which are our 1 row of the ABC blanket that will be available each week . You can see the first 4 letter’s graphs – which are A- apple , B- broccoli, C- carrot and cherry, D- dewberry and dragon fruit – here .

The basic steps of c2c ( increase , decrease ) you can find here.

Corner to corner ( c2c ) – ABC blanket tutorial .

Basic essential to c2c crochet technique.

Corner to Corner crochet technique was a technique that I wanted to try since I saw Sarah’s from Repeat crafter me beautiful lamb c2c blanket . She has really amazing designs with c2c technique.

There are several blankets that are stunning and you should definitely check them out :

  1. Christmas blanket of Sarah from Repeat crafter me
  2. Christmas blanket of Jess from Make & Do Crew
  3. Solar system c2c blanket of Bethany from Whistle and Ivy
  4. Zodiacs c2c blanket of Chi Wei from One dog woof.

When I saw these blankets I thought that it would be nice if I can make a blanket that has its own theme and ta da dah I designed my ABC- fruits and vegetables blanket. I chose the ABC theme as I have a 5-years-old daughter which is going to be pre-school next year. This blanket can make learning the alphabet funnier. I must admit that while making that blanket I have learned so much new information and new kinds of fruits and vegetables.

Here in Bulgaria, Europe we don’t have all the fruits as people in USA , Australia and other countries. I learned names of different fruits that I know but never needed to use while speaking English – such as quince, fig , dewberry . While searching and choosing the fruits and vegetables which I will use in the blanket I found and learned new kinds of them. I haven’t heart for dragon fruit, jack fruit, ugly fruit.

I used most common known fruits and vegetables that are known in almost everywhere around the globe such as – tomatoes, grape, lemon, carrot and etc. That’s why I will post 2 graphs for some of the letters so you will be able to choose which to use.

Let’s begin.

HOW TO INCREASE AND DECREASE IN C2C TECHNIQUE – The basic of c2c crochet technique

In c2c crochet technique we always start with increasing the rows till the desired length and then start to decrease. As I made my blanket design using 28 squares each for the 26 letters from the English alphabet and 2 blank made with solid color. We will increase till the 18 row and then we will start to decrease. If you wish to make a different shape such as rectangle using that technique you will have to increase by 1 side and decrease from the other side . I don’t have a rectangle design yet but you can check  Make & Do Crew “ Nordic super scarf “ here – https://makeanddocrew.com/nordic-crochet-super-scarf-pattern/ .

C2c technique is very simple and when you learn how to make the fisrt 2 rows you will know how to make your own c2c blanket or pillow cover or whatever you wish.

In c2c we work in diagonal rows . In each row we will have different number of blocks that are the same as your row count. For example in 1 row we have  1 block, in 2 row we have 2 blocks, in 3 row we have 3 blocks.

Row 1:

  1. Start with slip knot and ch 6 .
  2. Make 1 dc in 4th ch from hook.
  3. Make dc in next 2 sts. Turn .

We have the first block made.

Continue to row 2 .

  1. Ch 6,
  2. Turn, 1 dc in 4th ch from hook
  3. 1dc in next 2 sts

This is 1st block of row 2.

  1. Insert the hook in the space between the tch and dc and join with sl.st.
  2. Ch3, 1dc in 4th ch from hook , 1dc in next 2 sts.

Row 3 and beyond :

Repeat  steps 4- 8 .

Start with ch 6, turn, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 2 sts, sl.st in tch , * ch 3, 3 dc in tch , sl.st in tch * rep 2 times- as you see in row 3 we have 3 blocks. When you work using c2c technique we increase till we reach the tallest side of our graph. In my ABC blanket squares we will increase till row 18 .

HOW TO DECREASE IN CORNER TO CORNER CROCHET TECHNIQUE

When you make your last increase row. You should start decreasing

–  to decrease we will turn our work and

  1. make sl.st in each of 3 sts of the block that we just have made in the prev rd.
  2. st in tch
  3. Ch 3
  4. Dc 3 in tch, sl.st in next tch to join , continue as usual with, ch3, dc 3 .

How to read the graphics and how to change colors you can find here.

Here is the second part of this stunning baby blanket which I think is perfect gift for yourself, your children or even as a home decor on your coach. Lets finish the joining part of it…..

Switch to your MC at the end of the last heart of your 1st color heart chain .
Row 1: Ch4, 1sl.st in the center of the heart, * ch3, 1sl.st in the center of next heart * rep all around.

After you make the last heart , * ch3, 1sl.st in center of heart * rep all around the opposite
side .

Row 2 : Ch2, * 4sc in the ch-3 sp * rep all around , ch1, turn
Row 3 : sc in each st around, ch3, turn.

Row 4 : 1dc in each st around .

Row 5 : Now we will attach the next heart chain – you will repeat the same steps for each of next heart chains.
Turn the back side of your work , insert the hook in the last st of the last heart , pull a loop and ch4, skip 2 sts, 1 sc in next st ,* insert the hook in the center loop of the 1st heart and pull a loop ,then pull that loop through the hook, ch3, skip 3sts, 1sc in next st * rep all around .
