How to Crochet a Christmas Elf Gnome?

When I start designing a new crochet pattern (especially amigurumi) I tend to make more than one of the new toys! My sister is always saying that I can’t just stop at one!

The crochet elf gnome is no different! But it is all because I want to show all the variations that you can have with one pattern.

The Christmas elf is designed in separate pieces meaning we will crochet the body and later add the hat and legs(optional).

Moreover, the pattern itself is highly customizable and you can easily create your own unique crochet elf gnome!

How to customize your crochet elf gnome?

I designed the pattern in a way that you can easily make your own unique and different.

You can start by changing the colors of your gnome! For example, make the hat with stripes and keep the body one color! In addition, you can add legs so you will have an elf gnome sitting on a shelf!

Crochet Elf Gnome- Free pattern

Crochet Terms: This pattern is written in US crochet terms!

Crochet Construction: We will crochet all the parts one by one. We will start with the body, then we will make the hat, hands, beard, nose, and legs! In the end, we will assemble all together!

Crochet technique: The Elf gnome is crocheted in continuous rounds! It means when we reach the last stitch of the round we won’t join it. We will continue working over the first stitch!

Also, to have a more neat crochet I prefer to use the yarn under method for my amigurumis. This way your stitches will be tighter and less holes between them!

PRO TIP: Use a stitch marker to mark your first stitch! It will prevent you from losing the count of each round!

Stuffing your gnome: When you stuff your gnome stuff the bottom and around the body first leaving a hole in the center. That will help shape your gnome better!

PRO TIP: Do not overstuff your bottom! It will make your base pop out and the gnome will not stay in place!

how to crochet an elf hat for amigurumi

Take a piece of white color yarn and a tapestry needle. Attach your yarn onto the tip and insert your needle through the stitches starting from the tip till the brim.

When you reach the brim pull the yarn a bit to bend the hat and form it. When you like the shape of your hat, secure it with a knot.

You can also bend it from the middle as we did in the she-gnome. See pics below.
