Amigurumi crochet doll CAL-crochet along-Part 1
Finally, the day came, and the first part of the Amigurumi crochet doll CAL is here. In this part, we will start by crocheting the doll’s head and hands. Scroll down to find the pattern for Part 1 and all the information you need to know before you start. ( Part 2 can be found here )

Before I start with the pattern and the materials you will need, I would like to explain and show you a different technique for working amigurumi. I used Aran weight yarn/worsted weight yarn and a 4.5mm crochet hook for my doll.
Amigurumi need to be crocheted as tight as possible!
It is essential and this way your toy will be more durable and well-shaped!
Usually, we crochet amigurumi toys with only a single crochet stitch. In this new technique, we will use single crochet again, but we will work the stitch a little differently, making your work tighter. It is not vital to use this method, but if you crochet more loosely, it will be better to use this crochet technique.
New crochet amigurumi technique- Insert your hook in the next stitch and grab your yarn, pull your hook through the stitch, grab your yarn again and pull through the 2 loops on your hook.
Regular amigurumi crochet technique- Insert your hook in the next stitch, yarn over, pull through the stitch, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on your hook.
The difference between them – In the first technique, we grab the yarn with our hook instead of yarn over and then pull through the stitch.
As I mentioned above, to make your toy outstanding, you must crochet tight. If a 4.5mm crochet hook leaves visible holes, switch to a smaller hook, which will be compatible with your yarn.

Pattern notes:
- The pattern is written in US crochet terms.
- The whole pattern is worked in continuous rounds unless stated otherwise.
- When you fill the doll, make sure to stuff the head well so after sewing, the head will not fall and stay steady.
- You can use a stitch marker to indicate your first st for each round or use a long piece of yarn.
- You can use solid acrylic yarn for the hair, which you have used for the doll itself, or you can use fancy yarn as I did in my dolls. Just be careful when you choose your hair’s yarn- it must be lighter, don’t use cotton yarn as it is heavy.

Now in the next few lines, I will explain and show you how to make the facial expression of your crochet doll.
How to make the facial expression such as- eyebrows, mouth and nose.
First, we will make the eye socket of your crochet doll.
Take a piece of beige color yarn and put it through your tapestry needle. Insert your needle from the bottom opening of the head and pull it through the 1st st right next to the right side of the eye (shown with A). Now insert it back through the 1st st right next to another side of the eye (shown with B) and pull it back through the bottom opening. Now pull both pieces of yarn and secure them with a knot. When you pull them, the eye will sink into the head, forming the eye socket. Repeat the same for the other eye as well.

How to make the nose of your crochet doll:
We have 5 sts between the eyes. Make the nose one round below the eyes in the middle 3 sts. Insert your hook from the bottom opening, pull it through spot A, and then go to spot B and insert your needle through it. Pull the needle through spot A again and repeat a few times till you have 5-6 lines to form the nose. Then insert your hook through spot A one last time and pull the needle through the bottom opening. Tie both sides with a knot to secure it.

Making white line around the eye of your crochet doll’s eyes.
Take a piece of white color yarn and insert your hook from the bottom opening and pull it through spot A, then insert it back in spot B, pull it through spot C and then insert it back in spot D, pull it through the bottom opening, and tie both ends of the yarn. Do not pull too tight the white just enough so it will stay in place around the eye.

Making eyebrows of your crochet doll
Take a piece of black string or thinner acryl yarn and put it through the needle. Insert your needle from the bottom opening and pull it through A, then go 2 rounds up and 3 sts to the left; insert your needle through B. Skip 5 or 6 sts and pull your needle from C. Go 2 rounds below and 2 sts to the left and insert your needle through D. Pull your needle through the bottom opening and secure both ends with a knot. Do not pull the eyebrows too tight but do not make them loosely either.

How to make the mouth of your crochet doll:
Take a pink color yarn and your tapestry needle. Put the yarn through the needle. Insert the needle through the bottom opening and pull it through spot A, then count 4 sts to the left and insert your needle in the next st, which is spot B. Pull the needle through the middle st of these 5 sts but 1 round bellow. Make sure that the yarn is on the bottom side of your needle. Then go back through spot C and pull the needle through the bottom opening. Do not make the mouth too tight, just the right amount, so it will not come when pulled by the kid. Tie both ends of the pink yarn to secure it.

How to make and attach the hair of your crochet doll.
First, take safety pins and put them around the head, and outline the face. These pins will indicate wherefrom the doll’s hair will start. We will outline with pins, and then we will put the hair in these indicated stitches.
In the front, where is the doll’s face, I put my pins 5 rounds above my eyebrows. Put pins in a straight line following your round and count till you have 12 sts for the front line. Then start going downwards from both sides to outline both sides of the face. Go 5 rounds diagonally and then 5 rounds straight. You will have 10 rounds for the side. Then start going to the back and outline the backline.
Take the yarn that you will use for your doll’s hair. We will cut 40cm long pieces, and then we will fold them and attach them to the head. After folding them, the hair will be 20cm long. You can use a book or cardboard and then wrap the yarn around it. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard 100-150 times. Now cut the yarn from one side. Do not cut both sides. Take the wraps from around the cardboard, and they are ready to be attached.
Take a smaller hook. I used a 3mm hook and insert it around the post of the sc st of the head. Attach the wrap to your hook and pull it through around the stitch. You will have a loop on one side and the open sides of the wrap on the other. Insert the open part through the loop and pull it. When we are making the outline, we will work in every st, but when we start filling the inner part, which is between the outlined part, we will skip 1 st between each wrap, and also we will skip 2 rows between each line of wraps. It will prevent the hair from being too heavy and will keep the head steady.
