Design Process

As a crocheter, I love designing and creating new baby blanket patterns for special occasions, especially when it comes to welcoming a new family member. My husband’s cousin is 30 weeks pregnant, and we planned to meet them before the delivery. I had 3-4 days to crochet the entire blanket.

Knowing that time was limited, I needed simple crochet stitches or basic stitches to make a baby blanket that could be completed in just a few days without spending too many hours on it. So to make an easy crochet blanket pattern, I choose to use the modified single crochet two-together stitch.

Easy blanket pattern, and color choices

This free pattern is perfect to crochet a blanket, but the stitch is so versatile that you can make anything with it. Use worsted weight yarn for the blanket like me or use DK weight yarn and crochet a kitchen towel. The possibilities are endless.

For the colorful crochet blankets choose worsted weight yarn in three different colors in blue shades and crochet a blanket for baby boys or more girly-pinky colors to crochet a blanket for girls, it’s sure to be a hit.

What type of yarn should I choose?

The yarn I used is Lion Brand Pound Of Love yarn, which is worsted weight yarn and the crochet projects works quickly due to the yarn weight. Use bulky yarn for even quicker result. With chunky yarn you will have chunky blanket in no time to snuggle under.

You can use cotton yarn for dish clothes or kitchen towel or for more summery vibe baby blanket as well.

What size crochet hooks should I use?

With worsted weight yarn I used 6.5 mm crochet hook, because I wanted to add more drape, but you can use 5 mm or 6 mm as well. For dk weight yarn you can use 4 mm or 5 mm crochet hook. But better make a gauge swatch and check if you like the fabric or not.
