Why you will love the crochet cat gnome pattern
Before we delve into the magic of crochet cat gnomes, let’s celebrate the joy and warmth pets bring.
The Joy of Having Pets:
Whether you’re a proud cat or dog parent, our four-legged friends’ unconditional love and companionship create a unique bond that fills our homes with laughter and comfort.
In my circle of friends, I’ve witnessed the playful antics of dogs and the graceful independence of cats, each leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of their human companions.
The perfect gift for Pet Lovers:
Many of us have friends with wagging tails and family members with purring companions. The thoughtfulness of crafting handmade gifts for pet lovers resonates deeply.
What better way to share the love as we celebrate our furry friends than by creating a crochet cat gnome?
A Personal Tale: Honouring Ginger’s Memory:
Allow me to share a personal story close to my heart. My mom’s beloved cat, Ginger, brought immeasurable joy and comfort to our family. When Ginger passed away, we were left with a void that only those who have lost a cherished pet can understand.
We decided to crochet a cat gnome in honor of Ginger’s memory and the countless furry friends who have left paw prints on our hearts. This symbolic creation became a comforting tribute to the love and companionship that Ginger shared with us throughout the years.

The pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join your rounds.
If you use a different weight of yarn, your gnome will turn out bigger or smaller.
I suggest you to use a fine/sport or DK weight yarn with 2.25-2.5mm hook to achieve the size.
When stuffing the body- stuff it well, so it will stay in shape, but don’t overdo it.

Fill the paw.
How to form the paws
Take a piece of pink color yarn and a tapestry needle. Insert your needle through the paw from inside and go through the center of rnd 1.
Then go through the right part of your paw from outside to inside to form a line, pull it tight so you will form the first toe of the paw.
After that, repeat this step 2 more times. The second time go through the middle of rnd 7, and third time through the left part of rnd 7. See pics below.
How to join your gnome parts
- Before we start a little reminder: Use safety pin to secure the pieces before sewing. Sew them when you like the placement.
- First sew the beard onto the center of your body, right below the brim.
- Sew the nose onto the beard in the center.
- Sew the hands on both sides. Leave 3-4 stitches between the nose and hands.
- Take the ears and place them on both sides on top of your head. I placed mine from round 5 to round 11.
- Take your tail and sew it on the back. For the tail you have two options.
- Option 1: Sew it on the back pointing upwards and Option 2: sew to the side. See pics below.
- Take your paws and sew them on the bottom front. Leave 8-10 stitches between them.
These are the pictures for option one:
Here are the pictures for the second option of sewing the cat’s tail
How to make the whiskers
Take a piece of cream-colored yarn and cut 4 pieces of 10 cm.
Take one of the 10cm pieces and fold it from the center. Insert your hook in any stitch from the side part of your nose and pull the folded piece. Don’t pull all the way. Leave it like a loop. Now take the parts that are cut and insert them through the loop. Pull to secure! Repeat one more time for that side and then place two on the other side.
Cut them in equal length.
