The finished size of my mug cozy is 7cm x 25cm.

The base for each mug cozy is the same. Only the colors are different for each one. Here are the colors used.

  • For Santa Claus, use red color yarn.
  • For the elf use green and beige color yarn. When you are crocheting the elf, alternate both colors in every row.
  • For the Grinch use green color yarn.

Repeat the same for round 4. For the second layer, you will have less ch9 because we increased stitches in this round.

Take the yellow color yarn

Insert your hook in the first stitch of row 1 and pull a loop, CH 3, DC in the same stitch, 3 DC in the next stitch, 2 DC in the last. FO.

Eyebrows (make 2)

-with black color

First eyebrow: CH 11, SC in 2nd from your hook, 3 SC in next, SC in each of remaining chains. FO.

Second eyebrow: ch11, sc in 2nd from hook, sc in each st to the last 2 sts, 3 sc in next st, 1 sc in last st. FO. Leave a longer tail for sewing.

Grinch nose:

I used a tapestry needle and green color yarn to make the nose. Shape the nose as a triangle and fill it, using the yarn needle and the yarn. Here is a short video tutorial on how I make the face of my Grinch keychains. The method is the same.

Grinch mouth:

Using black yarn and tapestry needle make 3 lines to form the mouth.

I hope you enjoyed this pattern as much as I did sharing it with you.

How to customize your mug cozy

This pattern is super versatile, so you can turn the Santa and Elf embellishments into a Christmas garland or use them as Christmas tree ornaments. You can turn the mug cozies into a cup cozy.

If you would like to turn them into cup cozies, change the starting chain number from 37 to 27 and work it in a round, or join it after you crochet the whole piece.
