The construction of the daffodil flower granny square

Firstly, we will crochet the center of the flower with a yellow color. Secondly, we will crochet the petals. Thirdly, we will turn the flower into a circle, and lastly, we will turn the circle into a granny square. It can sound complicated but I included step-by-step photos to guide you and made a video tutorial as well.

Yarn used

For the Daffodil granny square, you can use any yarn from your stash. I have Hobbii Kind Feather, which is 100% Premium Acrylic, worsted-weight yarn. It is 100 gr/235m and comes in many color choices.

Blanket ideas for the daffodil square

As the daffodil granny square is so quick and addictive to make, I crocheted several squares and paired them with a solid granny square. So, I can give you some suggestions for blanket ideas or pillow covers.

The first version only uses the daffodil granny square, and I think the flowers pop out. With adding a white border, it can turn into a stunning blanket.

As a second suggestion, I paired the flower square with a solid one in green. Adding a white decorative joining to the squares can also make this blanket idea look stunning.

The last suggestion is a flower granny square paired with a solid white square. It can be the perfect combination for someone who loves more colorful blankets.

Customizing the Pattern

If you would like to customize the daffodil granny square pattern, you can experiment with different yarn weights or different colorways. If you will use a different-weight yarn than mine, choose an appropriate crochet hook as well.

Troubleshooting and Tips

Before you turn your granny squares into a blanket or something else always block each granny square. This way, you will have a nicely shaped granny square and will even the square out. You can steam or wet block them. Both techniques will work.
