crochet fall gnome pattern- the scarecrow with an overall and farmer hat

It is September!

Although we still get pretty hot weather around here it is nothing like August. This means it is time for more cozy fall crochet and a cup of hot chocolate.

As you may know each month we share with you a new crochet gnome pattern which represents the month of its release.

Haven’t heard of Crochet Monthly Gnome Along read about it here!

September is known as the harvest month and I thought:

What should I crochet for this month’s gnome? A scarecrow, a pumpkin, maybe a mushroom?

We already shared the crochet fall Pumpkin gnome with you so it is time for the Scarecrow to be added to the fall collection.

How to customize your crochet fall gnome?

When I shared the unfinished photo of the Scarecrow gnome some of you suggested that it looks like a farmer. You can start from here.

To turn your Scarecrow gnome into a farmer you need to sew the hands as we usually do so they will point down and not straight on the sides.

You can replace the hair with a beard and use the instructions for the previous gnome’s beards. For example, you can use the beard of the Watermelon gnome.

The pattern is written in US crochet terms!

The finished size of the Scarecrow is 15,5cm/ 6 inches.

We will crochet the gnome in one piece and later we will add the hat. You can leave the hat without sewing it or secure it with a tapestry needle in a few places so it will stay in place.

For this pattern, I used sport weight yarn but you can also use whatever yarn you have in your stash. Just keep in mind that it will alter your finished size.

Even better! Here is a great site where you can find a substitute for any yarn you would like to check for this pattern or another project you are working on. Make sure to check- yarnsub.com

how to crochet a hat for an amigurumi

How to join your crochet fall gnome together:

First start with the nose and sew it in the center right above where your blue ends. Around rounds 28-30.

Now sew the hands on both sides leaving 8-9 stitches between the hand and nose. You need to sew the hands pointing straight and not downwards as usually do.

Take the straps and sew them on the back and the front to achieve the overall look.

It is time to sew the hair. Wrap the hair around round 35 or 2 rows above your nose.

Take the patches and sew them onto the body wherever you like them.

Lastly, take the hat and stuff it a little with poly fiber fill. Sew the hat onto the body in a few places or not. It is up to you. If you won’t sew it there is no need to stuff it.

  1. Hi. I love making the gnomes posted on your site. I have a question,
Where in the directions does it tell you to change from the blue for the pants to the shirt color?
I’ve read the dirctions more than once but I’m not seeing the change of color.

    Thank you
