The inspiration:
I am a big fan of wild nature and all the animal variation that is out there. Main point of crochet this appliques is that they are cute, almost everyone loves animals (who doesn’t love animal especially crochet elephant) and it is a good way to introduce the wild selections of different animals to them. With those themed blankets you can play and learn with your children and expand their world of animals. I recently bought my daughter a game that has many questions regarding wild animals which live in different country and this can be incorporate with this projects. I can find inspiration everywhere but when i want to crochet an applique I struggle to design the appliques in details. And here comes the art of other crafty people which helps me out. I search for cliparts of project that I am making. When I find the clipart I like I represent it with yarn and hook. This blanket was inspired by wild animals and is unique gift for any children. Here are quick and funny info for elephants:
1.They are big.
2. Elephants can swim- I honestly didn’t know that.
3.They can be easily get sunburned. (I am not kidding).
4.Elephants love a good shower (who doesn’t)
5. They don’t need much sleep.
In this post I will share with you how to crochet Elephant applique which is part of our Crochet Jungle Safari blanket.

The Yarn :
For all my applique I always prefer thinner yarn. The crochet Appliques have so much details and this way it is easier to crochet and attach them. Of course you can use different weight yarn but my suggestion is category 3 weight yarn, DK ( double knit ).

Notes :
When you finish all parts of appliques, lay them on flat surface and use pins to secure them on right place. It is very important to pin the appliques before sewing so you will know exactly how it will look when you sew it on your project. When you like the layout off your appliques you can sew it on your crochet project.
If you will use the appliques on granny square blanket, sew the appliques onto the squares then join the granny squares into blanket. It will be easier to do and the applique will be more accurately placed.
