Crochet Lion granny square pattern
Materials
- worsted weight acrylic yarn- main color-yellow for the Giraffe and the rounds between the colorful ones. You will need 2-2,5 balls of white. My yarn was 100gr/240m per ball.
- 20-40 grams of the remaining colors
- Crochet hook size 5mm and 6mm. The smaller hook for the embellishments such as eyes and 6mm for the blanket itself. But you can also use one hook.
- tapestry needle and a pair of scissors
Pattern notes
Finished size of the crochet lion blanket is 90cm x 90cm/ 36 inch x 36 inch./ when it is made as a big granny square blanket.
The pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
Gauge: 12 stitches and 8 rows = 4 inches
in double crochet. The gauge is not important in this project.
The beginning chain is not counted as a stitch unless stated otherwise.
After the initial square is done we will continue with granny stitch rounds, BUT we will make the granny cluster with wide DC which means we will work in the space between the clusters instead of on top of the stitch and it will be referred as “space”.

3. Place the ears on both sides. Make sure that they are symmetrical before sewing or gluing.
4. Place the eyes right above the muzzle on both sides.
5. Take the mane and stretch it around the circle. Place safety pins to secure them before sewing or gluing.
When you are done with your crochet giraffe square base it is time to turn this square into a blanket. To do so you need to repeat the instructions of Granny square part 2. You will find them in the Crochet Tiger blanket post.
