Crochet mini Easter baskets

Sharing is caring!

Mini Crochet Easter baskets are so easy and quick to make you would want to make a bunch of them for each kid or adult in your family! The perfect size to fill with a few small treats/eggs. And if you don’t have any small friends you can use them as small plant pot covers!

Every year I try to plan my projects for each occasion but as usual, life goes in between and this year was not an exception. For this year’s Easter, I needed a quick and funny project which can be worked on in just an hour, and after seeing the cute bunny basket made by the talented Sarah from Repeatcrafterme I decided to make a few of my own. Instead of making bunnies, I decided to crochet sheep and chicken baskets.

Well, I love bunnies and have made a bunch of them as amigurumi, but this time I wanted to give you a different pattern. So if you have already made a few cute bunnies you can add this crochet sheep and chicken to your Easter party as well. Also if you haven’t seen our Crochet bunny doll, just check it out. She is the perfect Easter gift for any little princess.

These basket are also ideal for your mini flower pots and can be used as plant pot covers. Cool, right?

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn or bulky weight yarn in white color for the sheep basket and yellow color for the chicken basket. We need small amount of black for sheep’s nose, pink for the sheep’s ears and beige for the sheep’s muzzle, small amount of orange color yarn for the chicken’s beak, comb and legs.
  • I used Bernat premium yarn for the sheep and Red Heart yarns with love in yellow and orange for the chicken
  • Crochet hook size 5,5mm/ US crochet hook size I
  • Safety eyes – 1 pair of 14mm for the chicken and 6-8mm for the sheep.

Abbreviation:

sc- single crochet

dc-double crochet

hdc-half double crochet

sl.st-slip stitch

ch(s)-chain(s)

**- rep from the instruction in the ** indicated times

YO- yarn over

BLO- back loop only

FO-fasten off

MR- magic ring

Special stitches:

Puff stitch- Usually it is worked by making 3 or 4 yarn overs but as we will use 2 strands of worsted weight yarn together or bulky weight yarn I made the pff stitch with only 2 yarn overs to make it less puffy.

Puff stitch- YO, insert your hook in the indicated stitch, YO, insert your hook in the same stitch again, YO and pull through all the loops on your hook.

Reverse single crochet/crab stitch- The reverse single crochet is worked the same as single crochet but in reverse. Instead of working from right to left, you work from left to right.

Insert the hook, from front to back, in the next stitch to the right. Yarn over (yo) and draw the yarn through the stitch. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook.

Pattern notes:

  1. The pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
  2. Final measurements of the basket are: 3.5inches in diameter and 3.5 inches in height
  3. If you use worsted weight yarn we will work it 2 strands together. If you use bulky/chunky weight yarn use only 1 strand.
  4. The wings, comb, beak, ears are worked in one strand of yarn.
  5. If you don’t have safety eyes you can use small black beads for the sheep and black buttons for the chicken.
  6. I used a smaller hook than the required one as it makes the basket sturdier and will keep it in shape. If you find it difficult for you choose a bigger hook.
  7. The pattern is worked in joined rounds, not in continuous rounds. At the beginning of each round, we will make ch 1 and at the end of each round, we will join with sl.st into that ch 1 .
