Photo frame -crochet Halloween Frankenstein and pumpkins

Halloween is coming and after all Christmas projects ( you can check them here ) we decide to make a last minute pattern to share with you. I really like all crochet home decor stuffs… And from really really long time wanted to try making something new like this crochet photo frame. All crochet photo frames which i saw were so cute, so I decide to give it a try and what best from pumpkins and Frankenstein for Halloween. Here in our country we still dont have so much people celebrating this and to make a Halloween costume was not for me. I made the pumpkins just to decorate the picture for photo frames and told to my self why not to share the pattern for them too….So take your hook and yarn and let’s crochet some Halloween photo frames.
The Yarn
For Frankenstein photo frame I used Schachenmayr Catania solid yarn in these colors : grey, black, purple and brown. You can use Sport weight / 4 ply mercerized cotton yarn. The yarn must be thick not soft one. I really like how thick this yarn is and it is really suitable for this project. You can use Drops Paris, Rico creative cotton essential, Paintbox cotton dk, Stylecraft cotton and etc…
Pattern :
For Frankenstein photo frame materials we will need are :
- The selected yarn in needed colors
- – Crochet hook size 3mm/ US E size
- – polifiber fill for stuffing
- cardboard of plastic circle
- tapestry needle
- scissors
ABBREVIATIONS :
sc– single crochet dc – double crochet ch(s) – chain(s)
st(s) – stitch(es) MR – magic ring dec – decrease- sc2tog
inc- increase- 2 sc in next st BLO – works in back loops only
** – repeat instructions in the ** indicated times
Special stitch section :
1. Puff stitch – make dc5tog in 1 stitch – 5 dc stitches made together in 1 stitch
2. When the number of stitches is written :
– in front of stitch – 3 sc – it means – make 3 sc in next st
– back of the stitch – sc 3 – it means – make sc in next 3 sts
Tips and advise :
1. The photo frame is made safe and without using any wire or rock stuff that can hurt your child. To be more durable and it can stay still you must use more tick yarn.(not soft one) Such as mercerized cotton, worsted weight cotton/ acrylic yarn.
2. If your crochet is more loose use smaller hook so your work will be more tensed.
3. I used Schachenmayr Catania solids and 3mm crochet hook. Size of the photo frame is 22 cm / 8.6 inch
4. Use cardboard to make the bottom or use your child plastic plate. I used plastic play set plate of my child : ) 🙂 .You can even put some seeds or dry flowers in pack to make the frame not only look good but smell nice as well.
5. When you sew ring to the body make sure that you have sewn it from all side. It must be centered so it won’t fold back or front.
6. The () in the end of each row/round indicates the number of stitches that you should have in the end.

If you use DK weight yarn make the ring from rnd 1-72. If you crochet it till 90 it will be too big.
Stuff the ring as you crochet along. The stuffing will be more even and well stuffed. Do not fill the beggining and ending too much as we will sew both side together to form a ring.
To form the ring insert the beggining side in the open ending side and sew the ending on the beggining. We will have ring formed. Check the picture bellow:
Use black string or piece of yarn and make 1 vertical line , crossed with 2 or 3 horizontal lines- as there is injury that has been sewn.

Joining the photo frame and its elements:
- Sew the boots in the front part of the body. Leave 10-15 sts space between them.
- Sew hair onto the ring. Place the hair in the middle of the ring.
- Sew back circle to the ring. It must be sewn flat.
- Sew buttons on both sides of the head ring. The side that we have made slip stitches must be pointing up. So the buttons will point straight not upwards or downwards.
- Sew ring onto the body. The place that we have joined both ends of the ring is your middle for your sewing. To make the ring stay still without folding back or front we must sew the bottom and the ring through 6-8 cm long horizontal line. You must sew it from the front to the sides and then the back part.
- Sew hands on both sides right under the ring.
Insert your picture …
Voila you can keep your Halloween memories in the perfect frame Enjoy it.
