Halloween is just around the corner, and I couldn’t resist combining two of my favorite things into one cuddly project – pumpkins and turtles! 🐢✨ Today, I’m so excited to introduce my newest amigurumi design: the Halloween Pumpkin Turtle.
This little cutie is worked up in soft plush yarn, making it extra squishy and huggable. Even better? It’s a no-sew pattern – which means you don’t have to spend hours stitching parts together. Everything is crocheted directly onto the body, making it a quick and fun project, even for beginners.

The finished size of the Pumpkin Turtle is 7 inches.
Yarn used:
Super bulky weight yarn- Chenille/velvet yarn- Parfait Chunky 100% polyester, 100 g, 120 m in orange and grey colours.
OTHER SUPPLIES:
- Poly fiberfill for stuffing
- Tapestry needle

- Safety eyes- 16,18,20,25 or 30mm (a pair)

Pattern notes
- The pattern is worked in continuous/ spiral rounds. Do not join your rounds with a sl st.
- We will crochet the fins and head first. Later, we will join them as we crochet along, so you don’t need to sew any parts. Making the pattern completely no-sew.
- Use a stitch marker or a piece of yarn to mark the first stitch. Move the marker after completing the round.
- For my amigurumi, I use the ‘’Yarn Under’’ method. (see TIPS section below)

Free Crochet Pumpkin Turtle Pattern
Pumpkin Turtle’s fins: make x4
*with the main colour of your turtle
Rnd 1: MR of 6 sc (6)
Rnd 2: 6 inc (12)
Rnd 3: (sc, inc) x6 (18)
Rnd 4: 18 sc (18)
Flatten the opening of the piece. Crochet 9 sc through both sides.
FO. Don’t leave a long yarn tail. Place a stitch marker on the right side of each fin.
Pumpkin Turtle’s head:
*with your main color
Rnd 1: MR 8 sc (8)
Rnd 2: 8 inc (16)
Rnd 3: (sc,inc) x8 (24)
Rnd 4-8: 24 sc (24) [6 rounds]
Rnd 9: (1 sc, 1 dec) x8 (16)
Insert the eyes after round 7. Leave 10-11 stitches between. Stuff the head.
Rnd 10: 8 dec (8)
In the last round, you will add or remove 1 st to align the head with the eyes and crochet 4 sc through both sides.
FO. Wave ends in. Don’t leave a long yarn tail.

Rnd 5: (3 sc, 1 inc) x8 (40)
Rnd 6-10: 40 sc (40) [5 rounds]
In the next round we will join the head and fins.
Before we start, place the fins on a flat surface with the RS facing up and the sc closed side pointing towards each other. When joining, align the fin to the body and turn it with the WS up so you can work on the sc sts of the fin.
To join the fins and head, we will work through the fins and body sts at the same time. (Watch video tutorial for assistance)
The underlined sts indicate when to crochet through the fins and body. Start attaching from the head.

Start stuffing the turtle and continue as you crochet along.

How to secure the head
Take a tapestry needle and a piece of your head’s colour yarn. Insert your needle 2 rows above the joining round through 3-4 stitches of the body, and then repeat the same for the head. Pull to tighten and secure with a knot. You can go through the same stitches twice for more security.
Continue on making indents of the pumpkin.
Pumpkin’s Indents
*with acrylic or cotton yarn
Of course, no pumpkin is complete without its cozy little ridges. To get that classic pumpkin shape, I used a simple technique with acrylic or cotton yarn (plush yarn is too thick and slippery for this part).
Here’s how:
- Make the center dent.
- Thread a long piece of yarn onto a tapestry needle. Insert the needle straight through the center of the body—bottom to top—and pull it tight to create a little dip. Do this a few times until the center looks nice and defined.
- Create the indents.
- Next, wrap the yarn around the body to form those pumpkin sections. I like to guide the yarn between the head and a fin, then insert the needle from bottom center to top center again. Pull tight, and you’ll see the pumpkin ridge appear!
- Repeat all around.
Keep wrapping and pulling tight between the next two body parts until you’ve made about 5–6 indents. Your turtle’s shell will now look like the plumpest, coziest pumpkin in the patch.
Crochet Pumpkin Stem
- with brown colour
Ch 9 and sl.st in 9th from hook to form a ring. FO. Take a tapestry needle and sew the stem onto the centre or use hot glue gun to stick.
