Crochet Reindeer gnome- Free Pattern

CROCHET TERMS: The pattern is written in US crochet terms!

CONSTRUCTION: For the reindeer gnome we will start from the hat and continue crocheting towards the body’s base!

SKILL LEVEL: Beginner/ Easy

FINAL MEASUREMENTS: 20cm/ 8 inches

Materials you’ll need:

– Sport/ fine weight yarn- Yarn Art Jeans 55% cotton, 45% acryl, 50 g, 160 m
colors- Brown- 20gr, red – 20gr, beige- 10gr, white 10gr. A small amount of black and yellow

– crochet hook size 2.5mm

– fiberfill for stuffing
– tapestry needle

-pipe cleaner (optional)

-small beads (optional)

Stitch Abbreviation:

SC- single crochet

SS- slip stitch

CH- chain

Rep- repeat

Inc- increase (make 2 SC in the same stitch)

Dec- decrease ( work 2 SC stitch together)

MR- magic ring

– repeat the stitches in the ** indicated times

FO- fasten off

BLO- back loop only

FLO- front loop only

Pattern notes:

  1. The pattern is worked in one piece. We start from the hat and continue on the body.
  2. The pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join your rounds.
  3. If you use a different weight of yarn, your gnome will turn out bigger or smaller.
  4. When stuffing the body- stuff it well, so it will stay in shape, but don’t overdo it.
  5. Some pictures are from the previous pattern. Pay attention to the color written not the picture.
  6. We will use the pipe cleaner so the pointy part of the hat will stay in shape (optional)
  7. You need the beads for the Christmas lights. (optional)

Rnd 1: Start with a MR, and make 7 SC into it, (7)

Rnd 2-10: SC in each stitch around (7)

Rnd 11: *SC in first, inc 1* 3 times, SC in last (10)

Rnd 12: SC in each stitch around (10)

Rnd 13: * inc 1, SC in next 42 times (12)

Fold the pipe cleaner from the middle and insert it into the tip of the hat. It will make it flexible and you will be able to bend the hat. Start stuffing the hat

-switch to white color. Fasten off the red color

Fasten off and close the gap with a needle. Go through the front loop of each stitch and pull tight. Secure with a knot.

-with a beige color

Rnd 1: Start with a MR and make 8 SC into the ring (8)

Rnd 2-21: SC in each stitch around (8)

Stuff the antler as you crochet along.

Mini part of antlers:

-with a beige color

Rnd 1: Start with a MR and make 8 SC into the ring (7)

Rnd 2-6: SC in each stitch around (7)

Stuff the mini part as you crochet along.

Sew the mini part after round 8 of the longer part.

How to customize your Crochet Reindeer Gnome?

When I designed this pattern I added a few addons that you can use to customize your Reindeer Gnome!

Here are a few options that you can choose from.

Option 1: You can add ears and holly leaves to your gnome!

Option 2: You can make your gnome with antlers only and wrap a few mini bells around the antlers!

Rnd 1: Start with a MR and make 5 SC into it (5)

Rnd 2: *inc 1* 5 times (10)

Rnd 3: SC in each stitch around (10)

Rnd 4: *inc 1* 10 times (20)

Rnd 5: *SC in next 9, inc 1* 2 times (22)

Rnd 6: *SC in next 10, inc 1* 2 times (24)

Rnd 7: *SC in next 11, inc 1* 2 times (26)

Rnd 8-13: SC in each stitch around (26)

Rnd 14: *SC in next 11, dec 1* 2 times (24) FO.

Crochet Reindeer Gnome’s hands (make 2 pieces):

-with a beige color

Rnd 1: Start with a MR, and make 6 SC into it (6)

Rnd 2: *inc 1* 6 times (12)

Rnd 3-6: SC in each stitch around (12)

Switch to brown color

Rnd 7-16: Sc in each stitch around (12)

Crochet mini bell:

-with a yellow color

Rnd 1: Start with a MR, and make 5 SC into the ring (5)

Rnd 2: *inc 1* 5 times (10)

Rnd 3-4: SC in each stitch around (10)

Rnd 5: *SS in next, CH 1* rep around, SS to join. FO.

Christmas lights (Optional):

-with black color

Take some beads and string them on a long piece of black color yarn. CH 10, place one bead, CH 8, place one bead, and repeat this till you have your desired length.

Wrap it around your gnome in the end.

How to join your Reindeer gnome- Assembly:

  1. Sew the beard onto the body right below the brim.
  2. Sew the nose on top of the beard. Place it in the center.
  3. Sew the hands leaving 3-4 stitches between the beard and the hands..
  4. Sew the antlers on top of your hat. Place them 3-4 rows above the brim.
  5. Sew the ears in front of the antlers. Fold them on the open part to form them better.
  6. Attach the holly leaves around the antlers. (Optional)
  7. Use safety pins to secure them before sewing. Sew them when you like the placement.
  8. You can leave the ears and use only the antlers it is up to you (See pictures below)
