The crochet unicorn design is made by NJ, and the baby blanket is by TJ. The Lavender baby blanket is a mix of TJ and NJ. Having a twin is the same. It is a mix of feelings, but most of the time, a blessing. ( So many memories to share, but maybe for another post )
When I design something like the Crochet Jungle animal baby blanket, she always becomes my tester and adds extra details to my patterns. For example, Snowman Christmas blanket! the idea came from my snowman square I did years ago. I designed the Tulip bag, and she decided to crochet the Sofia tote bag. Sometimes she can be a copycat, but for a good reason.

The most comfortable patterns to design for me are the crochet appliques and the crochet amigurumi toys. If you see a design on our blog, Like the Doll- Crochet along or the Gnome along ( CAL ), be sure that it is a design by NJ, my sister is more crochet wearables designer, like the Warlock shawl, Crochet wrap “Karly” or any kind of crochet throws / afghans. She spent two weeks or almost a month crocheting, testing, and writing down the pattern for the Sofia blanket. Most of the time, she starts with a baby-size blanket and ends up with a throw size. Ask her how?

Final measurements:
Applique size: 6.5 inches / 16cm
Crochet hook size – 4 mm
Skill level: Beginner/ Advanced.
This pattern uses basic stitches, but there are a few which can be considered intermediate. If you don’t know how to make them search Youtube. There are plenty of videos that will help you.
Materials needed:
Yarn- For the applique, I used Paintbox Simply Aran (100% acrylic,100gr/3.5 Oz,184m/201 yards). This yarn comes in so many colors, and the weight is perfect for the appliques. But you can always use whatever brand worsted/Aran weight yarn you have in your stash.
- Colors- white for the body, purple, light blue, and turquoise, and yellow for the stars and horns.
- Crochet hook- 4 mm for the appliques and 5 mm for the dream catcher’s base.
- Scissors
- Yarn needle
- Buttons for eyes- you can use shank buttons or amigurumi safety eyes – 12mm
Special stitches:
DC5TOG – work 5 dc all into the same stitch, leaving the last loop unworked on the hook each time. When you’ve got 6 loops on the hook, yarn over and pull through all 6 sts. Work tightly here, and as soon as you make the next (sc) st, the bobble should pop right out on the other side of your work!
PICOT- CH 2, slip stitch in 2nd CH from hook.
Pattern notes:
- The CH 2 at the beginning of each row/round is never counted as a stitch throughout the pattern
unless stated otherwise. - If you have any trouble with some of the stitches, please search on Youtube or Google. You will find
plenty of helpful videos. - I always use a hot glue gun to attach my appliques on blankets or projects. However, you can stitch them. I have made a video tutorial – on how to attach an applique to your project. Check it out on my Youtube channel- Video tutorial.
Stitch Abbreviation:
- SC- single crochet
- HDC- half double crochet
- DC- double crochet
- SS- slip stitch
- CH- chain
- Rep- repeat
- ** – repeat the stitches in the ** indicated
- times
- FO- fasten off
