Sharing is caring!

It has been a while since I have designed appliques, but I am back! Meet the newest addition to the appliques family- Crochet flamingo applique. I still haven’t decided if I should turn it into a crochet applique-themed blanket such as my crochet Jungle blanket, Undersea blanket, or Safari blanket. Maybe I should make a simple blanket to show off the applique better. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments and help me decide!

Crochet flamingo applique pattern:

Materials:

  • Sport weight yarn or DK weight yarn in fuchsia, light pink, beige and small amount of white and black for the beak.
  • I used Schachenmayr Catania Originals, you can also use Stylecraft Special DK for example.
  • Crochet hook size 3mm/US crochet hook size C or D
  • 1 safety eye or mini black button.

Special stitches:

Mini picot stitch- ch 2, sl.st in 2nd ch from hook.

Pattern notes:

  1. This pattern is written in US crochet terminology.
  2. Final measurements are : 5 inches in width x 7 inches height
  3. If you use thicker yarn your applique will turn bigger, consider this when you choose teh weight of your yarn.
  4. If you use worsted weight yarn you will need to omit last round of head and body. So crochet the head till rnd 6 and work the body till rnd 4. When you make the wings just make the small feathers. The rest of the pattern is the same as using thinner yarn.

    1. Oh so many people suggested to add a few more birds and make it into themed blanket. I am working on the design right now and we will see what i will come up with. 🙂
PS: I am glad you liked it!

  1. This is a lovely applique. I am going to make it but frame it as a picture for my daughter who loves flamingos. One suggestion, many people who crochet a flamingo bend the leg in the wrong direction. When a flamingo bends it’s knee the foot is facing forward not backward.
