How to crochet the Pixel Pumpkin
This pumpkin may look fancy, but it’s actually very simple to construct. You’ll start by crocheting a rectangle in back-and-forth rows, then join the short sides together to form a tube.
From there, the top and bottom are closed, and a gentle dent is added in the middle to give it that perfect plump pumpkin shape. Finally, a stem and leaf are attached to complete the cozy fall vibe.

How to make tiny crochet pumpkins for bunting or a wreath
Turning this pattern into mini pumpkins is super easy! To make smaller sizes, simply use thinner yarn paired with a smaller hook. For example, I used a 5 mm crochet hook with Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice to create small pumpkins following the exact same pattern.
If you’d like to go even tinier, scale down further with a 3.5 mm hook and a lighter yarn such as DK or sport weight. I recommend Lion Brand Color Theory or Premiere Basix DK—both work beautifully for delicate little pumpkins that are perfect for garlands, bunting, or wreath embellishments.

I’ll guide you step-by-step and show each move so this project is perfect for beginners — just slip stitch + half-double crochet. Make it in 6 sizes, or scale down for tiny pumpkins for wreaths and bunting.

The Pixel Pumpkin pattern comes in 6 different sizes from extra small to extra large size. This pattern can easily be made with any type and weight of yarn which makes it super versitale. By changing you hook size and yarn weight you can make endless variations of this pumpkin.

The initial ch 1 is not counted as a stitch.
Throughout the pattern, we will work in BLO (back loop only). Each stitch and row is worked in BLO.
When crocheting the pumpkin, use the invisible decrease when closing the top and bottom.

Pixel Pumpkin size extra small
Row 1 (RS): ch 16, sl.st in 2nd from your hook, sl.st in next, hdc in next, *sl.st in first, hdc in next* rep 5 times, sl.st in next 2, ch 1, turn (15)
Row 2 (WS): in BLO, sl.st in next 2, hdc in next, *sl.st in first, hdc in next* rep 5 times, sl.st in last 2, ch 1, turn (15)
Row 3- 31: Repeat row 2, finishing with RS of your work. Don’t fasten off.
Fold the rectangle with the right sides facing. Ch 1, turn your work, and line up the starting chain with the last row. Join the short sides together by slip stitching through the back loops only. Once joined turn your tube inside out.
Bottom Closure
Take the loop back on your hook and make a sc in each edge stitch (it will be every other row), skipping the stitches between, sl.st to join your rnd. FO. Leave a longer tail for closing the gap.
Take a tapestry needle and weave your needle through the front loop of each st, going from outside to inside and then from inside to outside. Pull to close the gap. Skip to finishing.
Size Small
Row 1 (RS): ch 20, sl.st in 2nd from your hook, sl.st in next, hdc in next, *sl.st in first, hdc in next* rep 7 times, sl.st in next 2, ch 1, turn (19)
Row 2 (WS): in BLO, sl.st in next 2, hdc in next, *sl.st in first, hdc in next* rep 7 times, sl.st in last 2, ch 1, turn (19)
Row 3- 35: Repeat row 2, finishing with RS of your work. Don’t fasten off.

Bottom Closure

Stuffing
Stuff your pixel pumpkin with Polyester Fill. Take your yarn and join it to the first stitch.
Top closure
Repeat the steps we did to close the bottom for the size that you are working on. Leave a longer tail to make the dent in the middle.
Indents
Take the long yarn tail and a tapestry needle and go from the top centre through the pumpkin and pull from the bottom centre. Repeat this a few times. Pull tight to form a dent in the middle. Secure with a knot and weave your ends in.
Crochet stem
with 5mm and worsted weight yarn
Rnd 1: Start with a MR of 5 sc (5)
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around (10)
Rnd 3: *sc in first, 2 sc in next* rep 5 times (15)
Rnd 4-8: sc in each st around (15)
Rnd 9: *1 sc, 1 dec* rep 3 times (12)
Rnd 10-12: sc in each st around (12)
Start stuffing and continue as you crochet along.
Rnd 13: *sc in next 3, 2 sc in next* rep 3 times (15)
Rnd 14: sc in each st around (15)
Rnd 15: *sc in next 4, 2 sc in next* rep 3 (18)
Rnd 16: sc in each st around (18) FO. Leave a longer tail for sewing.
Finishing touches
Adding the crochet stem
Take your stem and place it in the middle. Use safety pins to secure it. Use a tapestry needle to attach it or a hot glue gun to glue it.
Adding cinnamon sticks
Option 1: Add the cinnamon stick right before you close the top, wrapping the pumpkin around the stick. Use a hot glue gun to secure it. Once it is glued, make the dent in the middle.
Option 2: Add the cinnamon stick after you make the dent in the middle, and use a hot glue gun to secure it.
Once you are done with the stem, take some ribbon or twine and wrap it around the stem. Cut and tie with a bow or knot.
Stacking your Pixel Pumpkins
With six different sizes to choose from, you have endless options for creating beautiful fall displays. Try stacking a large pumpkin on top of an extra large, and then place both on top of the extra extra large for a bold centerpiece.
For a smaller arrangement, stack an extra small on top of a small, and then add them onto a medium pumpkin. And of course, the biggest sizes make perfect statement pieces—place them on your front porch or next to the fireplace for extra autumn coziness.
