Crochet turkey gnome pattern
This year has been remarkable so far thanks to all of you who shared your crochet passion with us. Throughout the crochet gnome along, I designed and created so many crochet gnomes.
And each time I try to challenge myself and use a new crochet technique or a new crochet stitch so you can evolve your crochet skills with me. Therefore, I can easily say that this pattern was one of the easiest but at the same time most frustrating ones so far.
What crochet skills will I learn if I am a beginner?
Well, I kept the body and the hat pretty simple. If you know how to crochet basic stitches such as single crochet this pattern will be a piece of cake for you!
Not to forget that this is still an amigurumi pattern and we mainly use single crochet stitches and crocheting in rounds to create the Thanksgiving gnome.
On the other hand, the tail feathers are made with cluster double crochet stitches! We will crochet a circle piece of mini shells and turn it into a tail.
How to customize your turkey gnome?
When I make a new design I always end up with a few options. This means you can create your own unique gnome and add a personal twist to it.
After I finished the turkey gnome I realised that you can easily turn your turkey gnome into a peacock gnome. How cool is that, right?
All you need to do is crochet the body in blue or green. Use some yellow and green shades for the tail and you will have a crochet peacock gnome
Why not add some eyes to your hat? Take some black safety eyes and insert them into the lower part of your hat. Add some eyebrows with a black yarn and tapestry needle.
Another way to change your turkey gnome is to make it into a she-gnome. Follow some of the previous she gnome patterns and make some curls as we did in the crochet witch gnome or some braids as we did in the Valentine gnome set!

How to crochet a turkey gnome?
In this pattern, we will crochet all the parts separately. First, we will start with the body. Once the body is crocheted we will crochet the hat, the hands, the nose, and all of the remaining parts.
When we have all the body parts crocheted we will crochet the tail feathers. Afterward, we will join and assemble our gnome.
Crochet Turkey Gnome pattern
The pattern is written in US crochet terms.
We will crochet in continuous rounds. Do not join your rounds in the end. Put a stitch marker to your first stitch and just continue crocheting over it.
You can attach the hat to the gnome’s body or not! It is optional and is up to you.

Now we will turn the circle into a semi-circle and outline the feathers.
Fold your circle into a semi-circle and line up the edges.
Take brown color yarn for the outline. The outline will join both sides so make sure that you are working your stitches through both layers.
Start from the right side of your tail. Insert your hook in the space of the 4 rnd and attach your yarn, *CH 2, make SC in next space of rnd 5 * repeat going up till you reach your first shell.

Work SC over the next 7 sts of the shell, make sure that you are going through the back loop of the layer facing you and the front loop of the layer behind.

Outlining the feather:
Make a SC in the space between the two shells, *CH 2, make SC 1 in the following space * repeat till you reach rnd 4, Make the last SC in the space of rnd 4.

- Place the snood around the nose and sew them.
- Place the hands on both sides leaving 2-3 stitches between the beard and hands.
- Sew the small feathers on top of the hat or in top front.
- Place the hat onto the body and secure it by sewing it from a few places. I didn’t sew my hat around.
- Sew the tail feathers on the back of your gnome.

So looking forward to making this for my son who now lives in Los Angeles. Also it’s just in time for my birthday tomorrow so thank you xx
I love this gnome. I can’t wait to make him. I think he may be my favorite so far. I’ve made almost all of the others so far. Thanks for the free patterns! You guys are awesome!
Thank you for all your wonderful patterns! I’m especially excited to try the turkey gnome. Are there going to be any video tutorials about the tail feathers? I’m a little nervous about understanding the concept of where to place the stitches, even though the photos are helpful, for working in the ch space and for the brown outlines. Thank you again for providing such a wonderful gift!
This looks like a fun one to make but then all of your Gnome are so cute and easy to make. Thank you for the free pattern.
I’m really looking forward to starting this gnome. It is due to you that I started crocheting these adorable little fellows many thanks and look forward to seeing many more of your creations. I donate all my gnomes to various charities.
HI YA. I love all the designs you release and have made them as gifts. I want to point out on the Turkey Fan Feathers, there may be a need to be more specific on which rows are which colors. In the photo example for row 4, beige color yarn is used, row 5 uses yellow, row 8 red. The problem is 6 and 7 are not shown(that’s OK) but there is supposed to be only one row of orange. So I think if you denote that row 4 should be brown, 5 beige, 6 yellow, 7 orange and row 8 red, that will ensure the crocheters will get the feathers they expect.
Thanks,
Maureen

I wish I had seen your gnomes earlier! They are all so cute! I’m going to start making the turkey gnome, but I don’t see where you tell how much dark brown yarn is needed. Did I miss it some where?
Hello, you will need something like 20-30 grams depends on the yardage in the ball.
