What is the best yarn for crochet cup cozy?

The best yarn for cup cozy in my opinion is cotton yarn, but you can use acrylic yarn as well. For kitchen related projects I always use cotton yarn for my crochet projects. Because cotton yarn do not melt when in touch with hot surfaces.

Of course, as I said you can use acrylic yarn too. There is a lot pattern out there that suggest acrylic yarn if you are going to use the cup cozy for winter and cotton for summer. Again it is up to you.

The final measurement of the cup cozy is 12 cm wide on each side and 24 cm circumference. It will fit almost all of the standart go to cups.

How to take measurements

Because this cup cozy is crocheted with short rows, we take the measurements a bit differently. For this pattern we will increase at one of the side and decrease at the other. When you lay the piece flat, you will see that at the upper part one of the sides is longer and the other side is shorter.

Special stitches

I cannot find the name of the stitch and cannot decide if it is a single crochet or half double crochet. Because at the end we have 3 loops, like the half double crochet stitches I decided to name the stitch linked half double crochet. If you think I am wrong, name it as you wish!

First leg of a stitch– when we work single crochet or half double crochet at the front side of the stitch we have lines, for the single crochet there are two lines like a v and for the half double crochet we have 3. We will work in the first leg of the stitch ( which is the line, farrest to the top of the stitch. See picture below.

Linked HDC– half double crochet- insert your hook into the first leg of the previous stitch, then insert your hook into the next stitch, grab your yarn, pull through, we have 3 loops on the hook, YO, pull through all the loops on the hook.

Joining the cup cozy

After you fold the piece , start joining the short side. In this case we will use the slip stitch joining method. To do that Insert your hook into the front loop of the first piece and into the both loops of the second piece, YO, pull through all the loops. Repeat this for each stitch till the end.
