how to make tassels

Tassels are perfect to decorate your crochet scarfs, shawls, blankets, pillows, and more… I am a person who loves tassels and in most of my patterns you can see them, doesn’t matter it is a crochet scarf or crochet blanket. For me, it is small detail, a small final touch that can bring up your handmade item to the next level. Today I will show you how to make tassels with cardboard at home. This is the easiest way for me and in the end, you get a cute, fluffy tassel to decorate your next handmade item. If you are a visual learner you can check our video tutorial here.

Materials needed:

  1. Cardboard 10 x 5 cm
  2. Pair of scissors
  3. Needle
  4. Small piece of yarn
  5. A longer piece of yarn
  6. Some yarn

Take the yarn and the cardboard. Wrap the yarn around the cardboard, tie, and secure with a knot. Then continue wrapping around 35- 50 times. The more you wrap bigger and fluffier the tassels will be. After you make the size you want take the small piece of yarn, insert it between the cardboard and the wrapped yarn, tie it and secure it with a knot. Take off the yarn and cut it in the middle to equal parts. Take the long piece of yarn wrap it around the tassel’s body 7-10 times and tie both sides. Take your needle to insert it under the wrapped area from top to downside and pull it through with the strings left. Take the scissors and trim the downside of your tassel evenly. And voila your tassel is ready to be attached to your next item.

Here is a photo tutorial to guide you throughout the process. If you have any questions you can check the video tutorial as well. It is 3 minutes long and you can find all the details on it.
