Patriotic gnome keychain pattern overview:
Some of you may know that this year we are hosting a crochet gnome- along with which we share a new gnome pattern every month (or maybe 3 ).
If you are visiting our blog for the first time and haven’t heard of the crochet-along you can read all about it here.
Over the last couple of weeks, we received many questions regarding how to turn your gnomes smaller and I decided to design a mini patriotic gnome that can be crocheted in a few hours.
Also, the size of this mini gnome is half of the regular ones whereas they are around 20-24cm this mini gnome is only 10cm.

How to customize your Patriotic gnome keychain:
If you have made one of the previously published crochet gnome patterns you know that we used worsted-weight yarn.
Unfortunately, I ran out of colors and needed to reconsider my choice of yarn, therefore for this mini gnome, I switched to Catania by Schachenmayr and dropped my hook size to 2.5mm instead of 3.5mm.
But don’t worry you can still use whatever yarn you have in your stash for your gnomes. Just consider that it will turn bigger if you use thicker yarn.
How to customize your gnome?
Actually, there are so many ways to make your gnome unique. It is your own and you can change colors, add some embellishments, or even small buttons. Why not a mini US flag for example?

Mini crochet gnome pattern notes:
The Patriotic gnome keychain is worked in one piece. We will start with the hat and continue to the body.
The pattern is worked in continuous rounds so don’t join your rounds in the end!
I used sport-weight cotton yarn and a 2.5mm crochet hook. I suggest you if you can’t find similar yarn, use a DK (double knit) weight or fine-weight yarn with a suitable hook. This will help you to obtain the gauge and your gnome will be the same size as mine.
Here is a great online site where you can check for a substitute for the yarn I am using- Yarnsub. It will give you plenty of options.
Some yarns that I would recommend: are Stylecraft Special DK, Paintbox Simply DK, and Hobbii Cotton 8/4.
The pattern is written in US crochet terminology!
The final measurement of the patriotic gnome is 10cm/3.9 inches.
