How to customize your crochet St Patrick’s gnome?
There are so many ways to create your own unique crochet leprechaun. For example, you can start by changing the colors of the gnome. Later you can change the braids or the outfit!
A few of the eager followers from our Facebook group have made their st paddy’s leprechaun gnome already using the pattern of January’s crochet gnome. Why not change the hat? Use one of the previous hat patterns and add some more crochet shamrock appliques to it.

If you are crocheting loosely, use a smaller hook so your work will be tighter and the stuffing won’t be visible.
When stuffing the body- stuff it well so it will stay in shape, but don’t overdo it.
The leprechaun gnome’s hat is crocheted separately but you can sew it onto the body as we did for the crochet leprechaun gnome boy.

Measure the body’s base
Before we continue, we need to measure our base and cut the cardboard. My base is 10cm/ 4 inches wide. Place your crochet piece in the center of the cardboard and use a pen to draw a circle. Draw the circle around the crochet piece and then cut it. While cutting the cardboard, cut it a bit smaller, so it will not stick out.

FO. Close the gap with a needle. Insert the needle through each stitch and pull.
Crochet leprechaun gnome’s skirt:
–with khaki color
We worked round 18 in BLO which left the front loops of the stitches unworked, creating a line in which we will make the skirt.
Rnd 1: Insert your hook in any stitch of that round and pull a loop, CH 2, 2 DC in next stitch, *DC in first, 2 DC in next* rep all around, SS to join
Rnd 2-3: CH 3, DC in each stitch around, SS to join. FO. Finish with the perfect finish method for smooth edging. Check the perfect finish tutorial here.
I didn’t give you the final count of stitches at the end of the round as it doesn’t matter. The most important thing for the skirt is to make increases in the first round so it will curl. If you want a more curly skirt you can make 2 DC stitches in each stitch in the first round.

St Patrick’s day leprechaun gnome- how to join all the pieces together:
First, take the apron of your crochet leprechaun gnome and tie it around the body over the skirt.
Secondly, place the nose in the center between rounds 26-30.
Third, place the braids on both sides of the nose. Place them a bit higher from your nose.
After that, it is time to place the hands. Place them on the same level as the nose.
Use safety pins to secure all the pieces before sewing.

Now your gnome is finished. Enjoy and happy crocheting!
