Pattern Notes
- ch 1 at the beginning is not counted as a stitch
- Using a stitch marker at the beginning (or end) of the round is recommended.
- The size stitch counts and row repeats are written as: small (medium, large).
- There are two options for the edging. Choose one and follow the written instructions.
Color Scheme
- The small basket is shown in Color Bellini, the medium basket in Color Salt, and the large basket is made using a two-tone combination of Bellini and Salt.
- For the large two-tone basket, you will need approximately:
- 120 g of Bellini
- 135 g of Salt
- In the video tutorial, I also demonstrate a two-tone version of the small basket. For this version, you’ll need approximately:
- 60 g of Salt
- 40 g of Bellini
- Feel free to mix and match colors to suit your style or home decor!
Construction of the nesting baskets
- The basket base is worked in joined rounds using the half double crochet (hdc) stitch. After the base is complete, the basket body is worked in joined, turned rounds — this means that at the end of each round, you will join with a slip stitch and then turn your work before starting the next round.
- For the basket body, it’s important to note:
- The slip stitch join does not count as a stitch.
The last stitch of the round should be placed in the same stitch where you made the slip stitch join from the previous round. Do not skip this stitch, or your stitch count will be off.
To help keep your place, it’s highly recommended to use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.

Size Chart
Size small is 5”, size medium is 7” and size large is 9” in height. The base diameter for size small is 6.75”, for size medium 8” and for size large is 10”.

Gauge
Base: 6 sts x 4 rows = 2” in half double crochet stitch worked in rounds.
Body: 6 sts x 4 rows = 2” in wheat stitch pattern worked in joined, turned rounds.
Special Stitches
Puff Stitch: Yarn over and insert your hook into the stitch/space. Yarn over and pull up a long loop. Yarn over and insert your hook into the same stitch/space. Yarn over and pull up a long loop (5 loops on the hook). Yarn over and pull through the first 4 loops, yarn over and pull through the remaining loops.
Seamless join: Finish your last stitch. Pull the yarn tail through the last stitch. Thread the yarn tail onto a yarn needle. Insert the needle from back to front under both loops of the first stitch of the round. Then insert the needle into the centre of the last stitch (from top to bottom) — into the middle of the V. Pull gently to form a “fake” stitch top. Weave in the yarn tail on the wrong side of your work to secure it.
