The crochet apple gnome is the newest addition to our crochet gnome along (CAL). It is a beginner-friendly pattern and perfect for the upcoming fall season.

I designed the apple gnome as an appreciation gift for teachers, but not only. In our country, we gift an apple to every first-grade child for their first year at school. We believe that this way, they will be healthier throughout the school year.
I wanted to include the back-to-school theme for this year’s Gnome Along, so I designed two more Gnome patterns that perfectly pair together. The owl gnome – represents wisdom, and the pencil gnome – for me, is the endless learning cycle of life.

Crochet Apple Gnome Free Pattern
Difficulty: Advanced beginner
Finished size: 19 cm / 7.5 inch

Abbreviations:
- sc- single crochet
- sl st- slip stitch
- ch- chain
- inc- increase (make 2 SC in the same stitch)
- dc inc- make 2 dc in the same stitch
- dec- decrease ( work 2 SC stitch together)
- MR- magic ring
- ()– repeat the stitches in the () indicated times
- FO- fasten off
- FLO- front loop only
- BLO- back loop only
Yarn Used
Sport/ fine weight yarn- Yarn Art Jeans 55% Cotton, 45% Acryl 50 g, 160 m in colors
red- 15gr, beige- 5gr, dark brown-15gr, brown- 10gr, green 5gr, white- 10gr.
Materials:
- poly fiberfill for stuffing
- tapestry needle
- hook size 2.75mm
- stitch marker
Pattern notes:
The pattern is worked in continuous/ spiral rounds. Do not join your rounds
with a sl st.
Mark the first stitch with a stitch marker or piece of yarn. Move the marker after completing the round. For my amigurumi, I use the Yarn Under method.
Use safety pins to secure your pieces before sewing.
I am using the magic ring/circle to start my amigurumi.
The apple is crocheted separately and, after that, sewn to the gnome’s hat.

FO. Close the gap opening using
tapestry needle. See TIPs on page 2.
Leave a longer tail for sewing.
How to assembly your gnome
First, take the beard and sew it under the brim.
Second, take the nose and sew it onto the center of the top part of the beard.
Sew the hands on both sides leaving 3-4 stitches between the hands and beard.
Lastly attach the apple on top of your gnome.
