Why crochet a mini Snowman gnome?

As I said at the beginning, in some countries, there is no snow yet, so feeling the winter vibe is harder than in countries with snow everywhere. And the Snowman is the first thing to pop up in my mind when it comes to Winter.

That’s why, for me, the snowman represents the Winter season at all, not only the Christmas time. So, if you are looking for the same vibe this season, join me, and let’s crochet some mini Snowmans for the whole family.

What yarn is best for mini gnome patterns?

If you are part of our wonderful Facebook group, there were crocheters, who asked me what is the best yarn to crochet mini gnome or even mini amigurumi projects. So here are the yarn weight suggestions from me:

  1. For my mini gnome patterns, I used sport-weight yarn and a 2.5 mm crochet hook, so your minis will be the same size if you have the same weight yarn.
  2. By using DK weight yarn and smaller crochet hooks like 2.25 mm and 2.5 mm, you will get almost the same size as mine.
  3. Try to crochet with smoother yarns, like anti-pilling acrylic, 100% cotton yarn, or a blend of acrylic and cotton yarns. With these types of yarns, your stitch definition will be better, and the finished item will be professional looking.

Pattern notes:

  1. The pattern is written in US crochet terms.
  2. The pattern is worked in one piece. We start from the hat and continue on the body.
  3. The pattern is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join your rounds.
  4. If you use a different weight of yarn, keep in mind that your gnome will turn out bigger or smaller.
  5. I suggest you use a fine/sport or DK weight yarn with a 2.25-2.5mm hook to achieve the size.
  6. When stuffing the body- stuff it well so it will stay in shape, but don’t overdo it. You can still insert cardboard in the base to make it flat, but it will also stay still without it.
  7. Some pictures are from the previous pattern. Pay attention to the color written, not the picture.
